RPGx Character Portfolios

Oct 04, 2011 at 14:32:07

Hey guys, Well it looks like I only have a few days more work left on the SWRE Character Portfolio before it will be time to move on to the next. I figured out how to add in the weapons lists, and even some equipment features. I'm going to add a vehicle record sheet, and another starship record sheet that use the standard revised rules. Other pages to be added before stamping the project is a droid sheet, animal companion sheet, and another custom sheet (to be announced.) So now lies the question, what other game systems would you like to see turned into an RPGx Character Portfolio next? Place your votes above! If you don't see what you really want post it below!!!

RPGx Character Portfolio

Hey guys. So I need beta testers. I just wrote the first of a whole line of programs. This one is created fr Star Wars Revised - It's your standard character sheet with RPGx house rules integrated into it already. It's a character sheet that does all the cool auto-calculating, but still allows you to override anything you want to make your own stuff. It's in it's stripped down form right now, and can actually be run in Excel - but this is just the prototype for the Websheet version. Anyone who is interested, let me know. I'm currently using this version in the SW game I'm playing for keeping my character records.

Gaming Roll Out

May 22, 2011 at 01:09:53

Hey Folks, Sorry for the lull. We are currently deep in production on multiple games at the moment and I haven't had as much time as I would like to keep up the site up to date with the rest of the worlds gaming news. We will be making some slight format changes in the near future, but not to worry... none of the RPGx services that you use will be down, and there will not be a rebuild. No this time all structure will be ported over to the new backbone... YAY!!!! As a side note, many of the game projects that we have been talking about have been coming along nicely. Chaos Theory (Working Title) is actually in the final draft stages of system creation and will be open for testing soon. This is one of the few games that we are collaborating with WotC on and we are very excited about the product. Our expansion for Zombies!!! has been officially turned down by Twilight Creations as an official package, but we have gotten the go ahead to self distribute. More expansion material to come. Finally, for those of you out there on the gaming front. We are finally closer to releasing the RPGx custom level packs for CoD4 and Unreal Tournament 3. 5 of the 6 levels have finished beta testing, and the final stage remains to be completed. This release will also mark the return of the RPGx666 (Hell) Level, and BATTLE-CUBE!! to the new generation of UT.

We are looking for coders, graphic designers, beta testers, and writers.
Looking for Online Clans

Jan 04, 2011 at 18:38:34

So, are you currently in an online gaming clan that is looking for more of a challenge? Maybe you're just interested in getting more organized and want to get into more tournaments. Or, maybe your clan is just small and you want to get your name out there a bit. Whatever your reason, RPGx is looking to sponsor clans outside it's own RPx Clan. What does this mean exactly? Well, basically RPGx is looking to create a database of gaming clans as a sort of "Clan Directory" for players all over to find clans to play with and join. We also want to help different clans organize indie tournaments and individual events with each other. Eventually RPGx would like to hold official tournaments for cash and prizes as well. Each of these clans will be considered an affiliate of RPGx and will be granted full membership to the RPGx community. Each clan sponsored by RPGx will be able to use the RPx clan forums, chat, and community tools to help manage their clan. If your clan already has a site, you can just add your name to the database and join up with us to talk to other clans and schedule events. This isn't just for PC clans either. We are looking for Xbox360, and PS3 clans to sponsor as well. Clans sponsored by RPGx won't just get access to our website tools. You will also get one on one help with keeping your clan alive and going. We can help you get a slick looking website, give advice on team structure, and even help you manage you servers. Really we just want to build a larger gaming community that we can all enjoy. RPGx is about fair play and teamwork - which means we monitor clan activities to make sure everyone is playing by the rules. Hacker clans and glitch hounds need not apply. If your interested in getting hooked up with RPGx, drop a post in this thread. Better yet post up a banner and a little bit about your clan. In the near future we will be adding our clan database to the navigation areas where different clan profiles and sites can be browsed. And as always, the RPx Multi-Game clan is always taking applications. Please no applicants under 18 for the RPx clan.

RPGx Wants You

Jan 02, 2011 at 21:36:07

Hey folks. It's a new year here at RPGx and we are excited to have you here. For the better part of 2010 RPGx has been in a state of "building" as we have redesigned and streamlined many of the things you liked about the original RPGx. Now that we are 100% up and running, what RPGx really needs is community added content. Right now while RPGx is staffing for it's gaming projects (and site crew) we need your help to get thing going in the right direction. What we are looking for is inspired writers who wish to donate content to the site. DO you have it in you to write advice columns for GMs? Always wanted to write video game reviews? Now is your chance. Just submit your article in the form of a blog in the "Blog" section of our website. Each month the Managing Editors of RPGx will decide on 3 articles to pick as our "Featured" articles. Featured articles will appear on the home page, as well as in that month's newsletter which is mailed out to all of our subscribers every month. If your article is chosen as a feature article you will be eligible for either a prize or a cash option through paypal. Rules: 1) You must be a member of this site, and your article can appear on no other website or print publication to be eligible. 2) Topics are not limited to gaming only - any topic relating to this website or the interests of hobby gamers is accepted. 3) Members may enter as many times as they wish in a month, but will only be eligible for one prize per month even if more than one of their articles are picked as that months feature. 4) Feature articles are picked on the basis of content and over all presentation. Images and videos are allowed as part of article submissions, but must be accompanied by a print section as commentary or a main feature of the article. 5) Original art and videos are strongly encouraged. Video reviews, tutorials, and original shorts are highly welcome. Please try and be in good taste. If your video contains nudity, language, violence, or anything that might not be appropriate for children it must be labeled for content. Pornographic and outright lewd content will be deleted and will result in a site ban. 6) All articles must be submitted din the Blog section of the website. Forum posts are not eligible to be features. 7)[b:573479fd88] Text and graphic only articles [/b:573479fd88]must be a minimum of 300 words to be eligible. While large articles are certainly welcome on any topic please consider the following advice: [quote:573479fd88]How long should online articles be for those attempting to article market? Recently on one of the top online article websites the theories were discussed. And we all know that if you write lets say 5000 words in one day, that could be 10 articles at 500 words each or 20 articles at 250 words each and thus perhaps worthy to consider if your true goal is to attract online readers to your articles in hopes of driving targeted traffic to your website.A couple of days ago I wrote nearly a hundred articles at about a 300 word average; 28,500 words. With now about 8750 that is about 2,625,000 words or so at my average article size. 90,000 words is often considered a book. So one could say that is the same as writing 29 books. Now my older articles were much longer, some nearly 3000 words. You know, some of my older stuff was good, but no one reads it, too dry I guess.Today's online Internet surfers seem to read the shorter, quick stuff more, which is simply the way things are really. I would say that over time one does get better with things like spelling, grammar and or sentence structure too.Of course good editing helps. Unfortunately when the output is really high and the quality editing is really low, then you need to get back to basics. Nevertheless a 275 to 400 word average can increase the quantity of articles and then a little editing ought to provide you with a great article marketing program you see? Consider all this in 2006."Lance Winslow" - Online Think Tank forum board. If you have innovative thoughts and unique perspectives, come think with Lance; www.WorldThinkTank.net/. Lance is an online writer in retirement.Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Lance_Winslow [/quote:573479fd88]Writers are also welcome to submit shorter articles, just know they will not be eligible to become features. 8) [b:573479fd88]Video and Media Articles[/b:573479fd88] You may wish to submit your work in the form of a link to an audio file or video. We encourage this highly as it is an innovative way to spread your work. We do have a few criteria; Please give us at least 50 words of text for the article as a description "blurb" about the media, including any warnings that might be necessary for younger viewers. If you submit media, please do it through youtube to make it easy on us. If it's an audio only, please convert to a video with a static image for youtube. If your video or audio is too long for youtube please contact us directly and we will help you out, or consider breaking it up into episodes.

I'm sure you guys are aware of the changes we have been working on in the background. Finally one is available to use!!! Each member of RPGx can now select a custom background/theme to display on their RPGx profile page. This profile is viewable by everyone who visits your page including non-members to add a little flair to your gaming profile. To change your background (when logged in) click your name in the upper right hand corner of the site under "User Info" - This link as always will take you to your RPGx Info page... scroll down a little bit and you will find a new option "Profile Background" Select the one you want from the drop down list and save the changes. We still have about 50 more backgrounds to add to the list, but we put some good ones up for you guys to play with for now. Also: Did you know that blogs written for RPGx are automatically linked to your profile? That's right, when looking at someones profile you can scroll to the blog section and see every blog they have written sorted by date. You can also give other writers blogs thumbs up and down votes as well as leave comments. We still have a few more changes to make to the profile pages (soon users will be able to add a whole new level of detail and information on their pages.) But the goal is to create the ultimate social gaming page for you to use with all your social networking. Soon users will be able to make tweets and facebook posts straight from RPGx as well as share social status with all the social sites we support. In the future you will even be able to log in with your facebook account. Finally be on the look out for the mobile version of the site, completely re formatted for better viewing and use with a mobile phone.

Kung Fu Suey

Sep 12, 2010 at 14:38:54

Like martial arts? Like Chinese food? Like Card Games?!? RPGx has picked up development of Kung Fu Suey, a card martial arts card game rumble for up to eight players. We had worked on the project for a short period of time before, but got distracted with other endeavors. Well, we dusted off the box and have started the rules revisions that were needed to get the project off the ground. Currently rules are in development, but within a few months we should start play testing the game. If you're not familiar with the project, keep reading: Kung Fu Suey (working title) is a martial arts card game for up to eight players. Each player is a character who possess great Kung Fu. While eating noodles at a local restaurant a fight has broken out and now each player must prove that their Kung-Fu is the best. Each card is either an attack, a defense, or special ability. Attacks can be high (jump kick), Medium (Abdomen Chop), or low (sweep.) Defense cards protect the same way. A player's hand is limited, on their turn they must pick an opponent, make an attack and resolve the combat. A player starts with the chi tokens - when they are hit, they lose chi. If they lose all their chi they are knocked out. The game is comical in nature reflecting the attitude of munchkin and similar card games. The initial design of the game supports a starting module. But, eventually we hope to add expansions much like the Zombies!!! line.

Well guys, bad news. We had to disable the off site avatar linking and uploading. Sadly it just doesn't agree with our dynamic signature and profile code. Maybe in the future when we start to refine the coding a little bit we'll find a way to bring it back. But, the good news is; This gives RPGx a chance to hold it's first contest!!! This one's easy (but for members only.) Each participant should submit an avatar pack featuring 15 avatars for each category. All images should be jpeg, png, or gif format. Each avatar must be 90x90px. Please group avatars into a zip file in the following folder formats: Anime, Comics, Comedy, Fantasy, Horror, Misc, Sci-Fi, and Video Games. The winner will receive a gift card for game stop and all avatars featured in the RPGx avatar library. Please do not submit images that would break our terms of use policy. Copyrighted images will be okay as avatar submissions as they are less than 100px, and you are not claiming credit for the artwork. Original artwork will be preferred and the creator will have full rights to their art.Entries should be submitted to contests@rpgx.org

RPGx Live Game Room

Aug 28, 2010 at 13:00:02

Development has started for the RPGx Live Game Room program. Basically if you don't know what this is; LGR is a program that is designed to allow people to play pen/paper style RPGs online in a group as if they were all sitting in the same room. At it's core it's a visual voice/text chat that allows players to instantly share data in real time such as maps, character sheets, die rolls, etc. While there are combiniations of other programs out there that can accomplish the same goal, it requires allot of effort on the part of the group to coordinate and allot of programs running at the same time. LGR wants to simplify the process and bring gaming back to those who have friends who have moved away or just don't have time to invite an entire group of people over to play. While still in it's early stages, we do know some things about it from the start. For one there will be three separate releases offered up to the public. LGR Silver - Will be an online web-based demo compatible only with text based games. It will be open to all to use and try out and run their own games in. This will be the only version of the game room that is free to use. It will be the lightest on features, but fully able to handle running a complete game for up to 5 players including the GM.LGR Gold - will also be web based. This second web based app will have far more features than the free version, however each individual game room will be customizable by the GM/Group using it. Since this requires a server (much like a game server) a monthly fee will be involved for maintaining information over the course of a game. This version of the game room will be able to do cool tricks such as; display an explorable maps uploaded by the GM, text chat, voice chat, private messaging, store character information, public character bios, character journals, live die roller, random encounters, random dungeon generator, and a few more tricks too. This version will support up to 9 players including the GM. LGR Platinum - The last version that will be released will be the biggest and the best version. No monthly fees; buy one time. This version is non web based. It will be a windows compatible program hosted from the GM's computer or a server that they have set up. The program will come with 4 GM license key, and the program can create spawned player only copies of itself for each player you invite. That's right. Basically your entire group can get the program for one price, or one GM can run the program on 4 different machines. This version of the program will be heaviest on features. One of the biggest improvements over the web based version is the map creator. The GM can create maps before the game is made and upload them to the map viewer for the whole group to see. But, even better, if the GM chooses they can darken unseen parts of the map only revealing the explored areas as the group moves through them. Maps can be square or hexed based and players and GMs alike will have access to drawing tools and markers that work in real time just like a dry erase map board. So your group could have player icons that drag and drop around the play area and can draw out strategies and plans right then and there. The desktop app will also feature more in depth character management. Rather than just storing pdf files of character sheets, GMs and players will actually be able to input their character information directly into the program and store multiple characters. Also if stats change, players will be able to manipulate the data to reflect the change. There's no telling how many features we will actually pack into this thing, but so far it looks exciting.

Well, it's happened. A day has been set on the events page and we are officially ready to start running some group games on the story built for New York. The game is centered around a small group of Kindred who reside in New York. Through a seiries of "engeneered" events these Kindred find themselves forced to trust only eachother. Someone in the city has begun to set things in motion to claim domain at the expense of these Kindred, but it's unclear exactly who. Will the characters look for answers, revenge, power... maybe all of the above? We'll find out as the story progresses. Be sure to check in on this thread for plot updates as the story progresses. Also feel free to check by the source website for information on characters and known NPC plots @ http://www.rpgx.org/nymn.html

Normally I will not stream this type of news to this part of the layout, but I want to make sure I grab your attention old/new users alike. Over the next couple of days I'm going to hold off on the industry news so that this topic doesn't get bumped down.In the future the confirmation mail out will have more information in it on how to get started on the site. There are allot of features here for you guys to take advantage of. I think the most important thing for you to do is fill out the info on your RPGx Global Profile page. This is the data that the whole site pulls from and uses to link to your social networks. You can edit all your info by logging in. After you are logged in click your name in the top right hand corner under "user info" it should take you directly to your user info screen. from there you can plug in all kinds of information. The site will automatically track your stats for the supported social networks. In the future, RPGX will support even more. Currently we are working on integrating with twitter, so that your twitter account will auto update with your RPGx activity and from there post to face book. As an RPGx member you also have access to customizable dynamic signatures that will work anywhere eon the internet that accepts HTML. To set this up (you must be logged in): go to "clan gaming" then "Ranks and Sigs" Scroll to the bottom, pick a background, and grab your code. You do not have to be a member of the clan, but, if you are your signature will display even more information about you and even let people know when you have been selected as the RPGx MVP!!!Well that should get you started for now. After a little while and some more bug hunting, I will delete this post and continue with our regularly scheduled news.

New Site Features

Aug 06, 2010 at 23:47:14

Howdy folks, welcome back. As you can see we have undergone some drastic changes here at RPGx. Well, to be honest, you really do not know the half of it. Our coder [Jester] and I have been working for weeks designing, coding, and thinking of every possible feature we could to pack into this website for you. I have to say I'm quite happy with the way everything has turned out, but only time will tell if our hard work was worth it. RPGx Global AccountsWhere to start?!? Well, after you create your new account you will gain access to almost everything the site now offers including: Forums, Chat, PbP Access, Downloads, Weblinks, Game Blogs, Newsletter, Profiles, and more. These are only a few of the features that RPGX offers under your global account. Sure we had a chat room before, but you had to create a separate login and wait for it to load up. (Not to mention download 20 minutes worth of plugins.) Now, just click "Chat Room" and start chatting. Every part of the site remembers who your are and links all the data back to your profile. ANyone looking at your profile can see what page you are on, what you are doing, and can instantly message you at any time no matter where you are on the site (or off-site.) Everything and everyone on the site is never more than a click or two away. One of the biggest new features of the RPGX site is the RPGx Gamer Profile. By just filling in a few simple fields, and picking some settings, every member of RPGX has their very own personalized Gamer Profile page viewable and searchable by everyone. Are you into a certain kind of game? Love Pikachu? Put it up for everyone to see. If you have an Xfire or Steam account, or both; They can be linked to your page to automatically update and pull stats in real time, allowing others to see what games you are playing and when. Our goal was to create the perfect page for our community members that could really reflect their personality and serve as a kind-of "gaming resume." While the current version already offers so many features, we are happy to say that we will be adding even more over the next few months including; Customizable backgrounds, more profile linking, pop up messenger windows, and a member gaming channel (broadcast your own podcasts or videos). Below are just some of the cool features currently offered with your global account. * Realtime Community Stat Tracking (RCST) linking your profile to: Steam, Xfire, Raptr, Pwned, Playfire, Twitter, Facebook, Xbox LIVE, Windows LIVE, Playstation Network, Game Tracker, and Wii Accounts. * Personal / Public Blogging Account * Dynamic Site Tools linked directy to you profile's settings. * Dynamic Avatars and Signiatures * RPGxp Points - Members score points for participating on the site to rank up thier account. Later these points can be spent to gain access to special promotions or buy cool swag. * Personalized Radio - The RPGx Online Radio will adjust itself to your preferences when you log in, playing the kinds of music that you select.Improved RPGx ForumsOkay already, we get it, global accounts rock. Let's get to what you really care about already. Forums. Yes, RPGX still has totally awesome forums for all the members to use, abuse, and generally make the moderators pull thier hair out while removing all your off-topic gaming chatter. The forums have been streamlined a bit to make everything easier to find, but for the most part everything is still just about the same. At the moment many of the BB code functions have been disabled, but we will be adding custom BB tags in the future to bring the functionality back up to 100%. Users can still customize text, post pictures, videos, and use emote icons. As an added bonus, the forums now except HTML commands as well. This means tech savy posters will now be able to make blinking text, frames, and other nifty little surprises in their posts (within the rules of course.)Improved RPGx Live ChatA feature that didn't get much use before because of all the hassle involved was the RPGx Chat Room. Now we hope to se people chatting away with all the improvements that we put into the client. No logging in, just click "Chat" and you're logged in and dumped into the conversation. Your name in the chat room links to your profile. Instant messages are sent through the global site messaging system (someone from he forums could instant message you while you are in the chat room.) Chat text is cusomizable by size and color. Members can even post pictures and links into the chat. If all that functionality wasn't enough, there's more. With one click, the chat can instantly be popped out into it's own window to follow you around the rest of the website or even the rest of the net so that yo don't have to leave your conversation for one second to go do something else. Finally, as a major improvement over the old method of "open up the chat program to see who's inside just to find out nobody was in there..." The RPGx Community and Stats bar displays all the memebrs who are currently in the chat room at any given moment so you can instantly see whats going on from any part of the site.RPGx Community and Stats BarMany of you may have noticed that RPGX has changed from a 2 column layout (boring) to a 3 column layout (freaking sweet.) The right hand column is the RPGx Community and Stats Bar. This bar is constantly updated with all of the site information about what is going on with the community straight from our server. From here you can see the latests posts, live RPGX twitter feeds, connect to the RPGx Youtube channel, see who is in the chat room, see who is on the forums, who is on the site and what pages they are veiwing, check meassages, edit your own gamer profile, and even more. It's all right there, one click away and updated instantly.RPGx Gamer FinderAn old idea finally sees the light of day at RPGx. The Gamer Finder is a service that each member has the oportunity to opt in/out of from the very start. Think of this service as the ultimate gamer yellow pages. Find gamers of all kinds just waiting to find that perfect gaming group online or off. All a member has to do is fill out a few easy questions about the kind of games they like, location information, and your regular gaming schedule. Users can search using any of the criteriea to find or be found in the system and all the information is automatically linked to your global account. In addition to all that greatness, RPGx is taking it one step further. How would you like to be automatically updated via e-mail or PM when a user registers within a certain radius of your zip code? Features like this and more soon to be added to the current gamer finder directory.RPGx Events PageSome of you may remember the old event's page. While it was good for the occasional reminder, it really needed some work. RPGx has done just that. Everything you wanted and a little bit more. This is not the events page that you remember. Now users as well as admins can add a veriety of online or IRL events to the system. Members can even sign up and drop out of an event. Each event is completly manageable by the event host who creates them. Then when an event is finished, it will expire. Expired events can be commented on by the host leaving a perfect opportunity for a news update about that event. Hosting a convention or LAN party? Watch you guests sign up, have a blast, then give RPGx the play by play. Just want to meet up for some late night clan gaming, you can do that too. Event's automatically sort by earliest to latest and stream to the RPGx sideboard so that all members can stay on top of the latest gatherings.RPGx Gamer BlogsAnother old idea finally perfected. Finally a blog that is not only linked to your global RPGx Account, but more straight forward (and easier to find by your readers.) Each member of RPGx can submit blog articles. Readers can comment and vote articles up or down. Blogs are searchable by almost any criteria, and are listed on the blog page so that you see the newest articles first. Blogs are HTML compatible with no length limitations. And to sweeten the deal, RPGx is still going to honor our article submission agreements for features.

Gears 2 Double Cross Tournament

Aug 01, 2010 at 18:54:20

RPGX has a challenge designed specifically for the Fallen Prodigy Clan to test their multi-player skills at Gears of War 2. A tournament of high stakes and ultimate back stabbing. The tournament will start as a simple Wingman ladder match that will leave only one team victorious as the kings of the ring, but there's a twist. There can be only one winner... The team to make it to the end of the ladder must be divided and face off in a 1 vs. 1 fight to the death for the ultimate prize. So they must choose their team mates well. It's important to pick someone strong to carry each captain through to the final match. But, beware, pick someone too strong and the captain may find themselves knocked out with the rest of the defeated players in the end. Of course, no tournament is complete without high stakes. RPGX will be covering the action this weekend as the brackets play out, to be followed up with a play by play story and a video of the whole thing. To learn more or even get in on the action as it unfolds Check out the official tournament thread http://www.gamerdna.com/GuildThread.php?t=248596&postid=703448#post1
